American captains of industry and commerce during the Gilded Age considered themselves to be heirs of a great Western cultural lineage, with particular interest in honoring and replicating the cultures and societies established by the early Greeks, the Roman Empire, and Europeans, particularly Venetians, during the Renaissance. Serge Strosberg has created a series of allegorical paintings inspired by vintage photographs provided by the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum and has reimagined the subjects in Palm Beach today. Individuals are costumed in contemporary vibrant patterns and colors, and a frieze composed of train tracks borders the works. Descriptions of the historical images were written by Palm Beach historian Rick Rose.
