Children's Concert

“It Could Be a Wonderful World,” a concert for children, will be presented at the Lake Worth Playhouse on Saturday, August 10 at 2PM.  The concert features five of the regions most popular performers and the animals from Busch Wildlife Sanctuary. Tickets are available at the Lake Worth Playhouse box office and at LakeWorthPlayhouse.org.  This concert benefits Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, LULA, ClayGlassMetalStone Gallery and the Lake Worth Playhouse.

A spirited round of sing-along songs with chants, hand signals and fun choruses will be sprinkled with a live animal show and demonstration both on stage and during the intermission in the lobby.  The theme of the concert, “It Could Be A Wonderful World,” is reflected in the songs about family interactions,  saving the animals on the planet, and conservation. The event includes some wonderful gifts for the children in attendance.  The Mockingbird Community Garden of Lake Worth will be giving children free seedlings to plant in their gardens.  Clay Glass Metal Stone gallery will be giving children free kazoos, with a kazoo lesson from the performers on the stage.  The Lake Worth Lagoon Muck Monster will be greeting the children before and after the concert.

All of the songs from this concert are being recorded on DVD so families can take them home and learn to sing them over and over again. The Kazoos will be put to good use as they hone their talents in time to the music.

Performers:

Grant Livingston was named one of the all-time top ten folksingers in Florida. He creates songs for children that are so engaging, no child could keep quiet or still in his presence. Melody and harmony pour from his lips as he jovially engages, on stage, with the rest of the cast. Watch Grant as he “Waltzes with Bears.”

Kat Mahoney has the deep and dark songs that children love and that match her rich, powerful voice.  From “I’m Gonna Tell on You”  to “I’m Getting Eaten by a Boa Constrictor,” Kat’s performance will thrill the youngest to the oldest family member.

Marie Nofsinger, a South Florida legend, has graced stages and the regions top folk festivals where she is always a favorite.  Expect quick wit and quips on stage as she has the audience guess which vegetables she’s singing about in the Vegetable game. She looks like sunshine, casting a warm glow as she both belts out some songs and then dissolves to gentle songs with quiet harmonies.

Jim Shettleroe, master of guitar, banjo and mandolin can both sing and pantomime at the same time. His songs require rapt attention and flamboyant imitation. “Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud”, means that there may be a  Hippopotamus or two lurking in the wings. Rise to join your place in the choir and then clap your hands or paws or anything you got now.  Jim jovially bounces and jiggles and giggles along with nearly every song played.

Kathleen Kirschner is a local artist and performer who will become a frog during this performance as she sings, “It’s Not Easy Being Green”.  When she puts down her paint brush and glue gun as a visual artist, Kathleen emerges as any one of a number of characters on stage, leading the pantomime of the songs and cheering the audience on.

Official videographer and DVD producer of the event is award winning James Venable of Blackdoor Productions.  Sound  and Technical Engineer is Ed Berkoff with decades of sound and technical experience with some of the major musical groups in the nation.
