9 Arch Mural Project Event at 1000 Lake Ave. & "H" Street

Saturday, November 17, 2012, 10:00am - 04:00pm

LULA Lake Worth Arts, the Lake Worth Community Redevelopment Agency and the City of Lake Worth announces the 9 Arch Mural Project Event. This multifaceted project was designed to create commission jobs for artists, revitalize blighted buildings and create live art demonstrations. Public art serves as an expression of the community, as well as a creative landmark. These 9 selected murals will provide an important venue for the community and visitors to appreciate artwork outside the traditional gallery setting.

After an open Call for Artists in July, the Selection Panel consisting of  art professionals included Vernon Grant, Associate Dean, Palm Beach State College, Elayna Toby Singer, Palm Beach County Art in Public Places, Nicole Hickey, Cultural Council of Palm Beach County and Madilyn McKendry Vice Chair of the CRA; selected nine muralists to duplicate their submission on to 1000 Lake Avenue.  Nine selected artists were chosen based on credentials and artistic design. They include: Astrid Mora, Jennifer N. Chaparro, Eduardo Mendieta, Judy Dempsey, Paul Slater, Craig McInnis, AnnaMaria Windisch Hunt, Sharon Koskoff and Patricia Levy. These exciting works of art serve as temporary art during the buildings rehabilitation period, expected to take three to four years. They will also act as the focal point of the 9 Arch Mural Project Event happening  Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 10am-4pm.

The Historic 1000 Lake Avenue building, built in 1927 was the first Scottish Rite Masonic Temple in Lake Worth that later served as a post office, drug store, dancing school and a hotel.  This building, once rehabilitated, will improve the overall physical environment in western downtown and assist in the expansion of the downtown arts district. This Mural project is the first of many murals LULA Lake Worth Arts will feature as part of the LULA’s Walking Mural Tour.

This FREE event is open to the public and will feature “live” art demonstrations by the 9 artists, live music from local bands, performances by local dance studios, gourmet food vendors and a market with artists selling their art.
