Opening Reception: Irene Jalowayski at Artisans on the Avenue

Saturday, November 19, 2016, 06:00pm - 09:00pm

Irene Jalowayski
A Florida native, raised in Miami, Florida but spent much of Her adult life in California. Eleven years ago Irene returned to West Palm Beach.
Working with Glass has allowed her to express creativity and love for color, shape and form. Until this year all of her work had been with fused glass. Creating sculpture, functional vessels, bowls, vases and Judaica including menorahs and mezuzahs. Most of her pieces are made of either fused glass or cast glass. Casting is more complicated and difficult than working with fused glass. Clay sculpture made first and then cast in plaster. Once the plaster is dry the mold is filled with glass and fired to 1450 degrees for 38 hours. Then mold is broken away from the glass sculpture. The resulting piece of solid glass beautiful and substantial. Always one of kind.
Irene chose to work with glass because says she has always loved to look at it and to feel it. Long before she began to work with glass she was collecting it. Her personal glass collection includes pieces by American, Italian and Swedish glass artists. She stated “by Creating my own glass pieces has not stopped me from purchasing a beautiful piece of glass if I fall in love with it”.
Her inspiration comes from what is around and from whatever she can imagine. Other times an image in her mind is designed in glass. Inspiration does not come in only one form. The sight of a lovely flower can be an inspiration. A wonderful painting can spark an image of something to be made in glass. She also has been inspired by the paintings of Picasso, Miro, Matisse, Mondrian, and Chagall. Her favorite designs are simple, colorful, and pleasing to the eye.
About five years ago she started making beautiful silver and glass jewelry. The glass colors just naturally go with silver as they look so beautiful together. She also loves making silver and cast glass jewelry with sparkling dichroic glass.
